The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has began to throw luggage and properties of students out of the halls of residence after a short notice of vacation sent 24hours ago. They nailed the doors of their rooms afterwards.

This happened in Moremi hall, a female hostel, earlier today. Some of the students including student activists and journalists, who came to the rescue of the females, were rough handled during the process.

Gbenga Oloniran, the Secretary of a left group, Anti Neo-liberal attacks Against students Association(ANSA) , alongside a female student, were confirmed to be arrested by security unit of the university.

The school vacated for the session on the 17th of February but students writing their final year projects and those undergoing their SIWES and Teaching Practice (TP) programme are still around on campus.

Ayodeji Fridaus, who witnessed the forceful eviction at Moremi hall, told OAU KILONSHELE that the officers were not considerate enough as they threw students loads from the topmost floor.

"Some of us are on campus because of SIWES. Where dothey want us to go?" She lamented about the lack of provisions for their accommodation.

Also, an occupant of Moremi, Miss Akinremi, a final year student, complained that she's yet to finish her final year project. Expressing her grievances, she said all her loads including her mattress have been flung out.

Moreover, the same has began at Alumni hall, a female hostel. Halimat Busayo, who resides in Alumni, told our correspondent that the hall warden has been hell bent on evicting them out of the hostel even after lodging the complaints of SIWES, TP and projects.

Meanwhile, speaking with the hall warden of Alumni hall, she said that the order came from the school management for renovation purposes.

"The hostels were renovated when these students came in. They should also allow us to renovate when new ones are coming in."

According to the Dean of Division of Students Affairs (DSA), Isiaka Aransi, who showed up in the company of the Chief security Officer  at the scene in Moremi, commanded that all students should move out of the hostels  while addressing the aggrieved students.

One of the security Officer identified as Baba Ibeji further threatened  that students, who refuse to comply with the order. will be arrested.

Afterwards, a three-hour-ultimatum was given to students occupying all halls of residence to vacate the hostels today. The public announcement made stated that.

It should be recalled that OAU KILONSHELE reported the plans of the school management to give the hostels a face-lift.
