OAU STUDENTS STAND WITH THE IMPEACHMENT OF SU PRESIDENT, MANAGEMENT ISSUES PROSCRIPTION THREATS.

Sequel to the impeachment of the President of Obafemi Awolowo University Students' Union, students have remained undaunted in their stance in accordance with the decision made at the parliament.

In a Congress Presided by Temitope Falayi, the Acting President, held at Awolowo cafè in the evening of Sunday,  students expressed their grievances against the reactions of the impeached President, Oyekan Edward, who termed the impeachment process to be unconstitutional.

"It is on this note that I make bold to assert that the leadership of the Parliament and the 37 parliamentarians out of a total of 150 parliamentarians that called themselves together, have not only flouted the constitution but have also expressed their sinister motive and selfish interests openly‎. On this note, I can confirm and reaffirm to the generality of Great Ife Students and to the world that the impeachment is kangaroo, null and void; and unconstitutional; and I, Ibukun Oyekan, remains the President, Great Ife Students' Union, 2016/2017 Parliamentary Session." Oyekan stated defiantly.

"Students have decided that they don't want him again and the decision of the Students should stand. He cannot impose himself on us" Jubril, a student asserted

As part of the way forward, a student, Ijiwole Ijiyinka, submitted that the signatures of students in all halls of residence should be gathered in respect of their stand against the impeached Union leader parading himself as the president.
"Let us go to halls of residence and get signatures of the Students." Ijiyinka stated.

"The union under the leadership of the Acting President, Temitope Falayi, should write a letter stating the impeachment of the President."
It should be forwarded to the management and pasted in all halls of residence latest tomorrow so as for them to know that any business done with him as the president is at their own peril." Bernard P, another student, suggested.

Also, it was suggested that the students should move to the office of the President at the Students' Union Building and he and his things should be evacuated from the building.

Moreover, a new group of security committee members were nominated and ratified against the existing ones, who didn't make it to the ratification of the Congress of students because they were alleged to be connected to the attack on November 1st.

After various suggestions from students, the Congress was put to a halt and adjourned till the next day by 4pm. Students marched down to SUB, where the security room was ransacked to evacuate the former security committee members for the newly ratified security members to occupy the place.

All efforts to get access to the President's office proved abortive as the Students were unable to lay hold of the keys to the office.

Meanwhile, in a meeting of the Students' Union leaders and campus journalists with the university principal officers, it was deduced that the management wants to proscribe the union to protect the image of the university.

The Vice- chancellor, however, noted that he still recognises the impeached President as the President of the Union until there is an official letter from the parliament to the varsity management.

"The President who is the impeached President is still the same President I know because I've not gotten any letter to the effect of the impeachment." Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede said.

Confusion sets in as students doesn't want the proscription of the Union and they want the Impeached President to accept the impeachment in good fate. It was recalled that the last proscription lasted for a session and this present administration is a product of the recent reinstatement of the Union.
